User interface and touchscreen developer Goodix is expanding its US operations. The China-based company is planning to double its R&D, sales, and marketing staff in Silicon Valley over the course of the next year.

The move comes at a time of growth for the company. Earlier this summer, a Digitimes Research report predicted that Goodix would become “the largest fingerprint sensor solution provider in China,” largely because of the glass-based materials the company uses for its fingerprint-enabled touchscreens. The company's growth is evidently spilling over into the US too as the popularity of fingerprint biometrics technology continues to gain popularity, with major brands like Microsoft integrating it as a major component of its Windows 10 security apparatus.

Commenting on the new Silicon Valley expansion, Goodix's CEO explained that establishing a strong base in America's tech hub will allow the company to “work more closely with top companies to bring the latest Goodix technologies in fingerprint sensing and other mobile features to sophisticated mobile users,” adding that it will also let Goodix take advantage of “a growing pipeline of design wins” that will see its technology integrated into “mobile phones, tablets, notebook computers, wearables and other mobile devices”.

Goodix has so far had a hand in developing exciting new technologies including single-layer multi-touch interfaces and multi-touch interfaces, chip-on-board design, as well as the ‘Hotknot’ system of transmitting data via capacitive touchscreen; and the company plans to show off many of its innovations at this year's Intel Developers Forum.
